She was born in 1976 on the crazy beaches of the Black Sea. After nine years of running wild and barefoot on those beaches, she moved with her family to Istanbul where she finished primary education. She spent the next seven years at Beşiktaş Atatürk Anadolu Lisesi, attending the rehearsals of the English Speaking Drama Group as if it was the sole purpose of her entire existence. She continued her university education in the UK, at the Drama Department of Bristol University. In her final year at university, the play she created and directed “The Day of the 43 Sunsets” was shortlisted for the Best Student Drama Award by the Guardian Newspaper. After graduation she stayed on in the UK for three years to work in a school dedicated to the therapeutic education of children with special needs in the autistic spectrum. Upon her return to Turkey, she joined the Kumpanya Theatre Group. In 2001, “Ayşegül in Canada”, the play she wrote, directed and performed in, was staged in the old Armenian monastery in Tarlabaşı, where Kumpanya resided for 12 years. In 2002, she wrote Naz Erayda’s project “What Is It This Time?”. This play was performed in the 2002 Istanbul International Theatre Festival.

Her command of English is at native speaker level. She can also speak French and Dutch. In 2005, She won the second prize with her translation from Turkish to English, at the translation competition organized by Best Publishing.

She currently works as a freelance translator at U-Speak Translation Bureau which she founded herself. She embraces and surrenders to all words, regardless of language, religion or race.
